Times Square
I live Manhattan…. Manhattan, Kansas. Though we do our own “Little Apple” version of the ball drop, nothing compares to New Year’s Eve in New York City. Every year since 1907, when the first ball was dropped, Times Square has been the center of attention during the transition from one year to the next. I remember watching the live TV stream every year.
Now you can be a part of the action wherever you are. With the Times Square Official Ball App on Android and iPhone, you can stream the events right to your phone. It comes with a countdown clock, a greeting card creator, and numerous fun facts and trivia. From the app, you can also post pictures to possibly be displayed on the Toshiba screen on the special night.
Party Whistle
Forgot your party whistle to celebrate the New Year? Available on the iPhone is an app called… you guessed it, Party Whistle. It’s great for kids and adults alike. You blow into the phone’s speaker to make the whistle unwind and make the wonderful festive sound we all know and love.
Find a way home
Let the holidays stay fun and joyous for everyone by remaining safe and responsible. Also on the iPhone is an app called cab4me. Available in both free and paid editions, this app allows you to select a pickup location on a map. It pulls up numerous cab companies and allows you to call straight from the app. This way you will find a cab fast and easily, so you can go home and get some rest.
Start the New Year on top
If you are one to make New Year’s Resolutions, there are numerous apps to help you get a jump start and stay on track. If exercising is a top priority, try an app like CardioTrainer or iMapMyFitness. Both are designed to track your exercise and help you set up goals. You can also use an app called MyFitnessPal to watch your calorie intake and see the nutrition status of foods you are eating.
If you are interested in keeping track of finances, set up a mint.com account. With this app, you can budget and manage your money from your phone. You can see all of your accounts in one place, and you can also set up alerts if your balances are low or if there is an upcoming due date.
Hopefully these apps are helpful and amusing. I wish everyone a Happy Holiday and a wonderful year. If you know of any other apps for a great New Year’s, please share them in the comments section!
